Reflections of The City: Framing The Urban Landscape
This project takes the viewer around the cityscape of Leeds, through my camera’s lens. I explored the deeper and rich dynamics of the urban landscape that the individual is a part of. Central to this project is the use of windows around the city and the reflections cast within their frames. Focusing on windows allowed me to explore the prominent boundary between the public and private self. These reflections interplay the individual with the architecture of the city, to remind the viewer everyone is just part of a larger story. My project is aimed at those wishing to explore the richer and hidden dynamics present in large cities making the daunting architecture tell a story of comfort. Therefore, I aim for the viewer to consider how much do these photographs reveal about real life? What is being said and what has been left out of the frame? Furthermore, rooted in this project is the theme of finding connection and identity within something much bigger than yourself. Leeds is the central focus point to my photography as it became a defining feature in the reshaping of my identity in my post school years. Therefore, I wanted this project to represent a groundedness within these urban environments. This project explores moving within the urban space, while capturing how we find our place within it. Each window portrays a sense of community and connection many search for in urban spaces.
